Dover Community Becomes First in Delaware to Offer Masterpiece Living; Approach is Based on MacArthur Foundation Research that Shows How We Age is 70% Dependent on Lifestyle and Only 30% Dependent on Genetics

Masterpiece Living logoDover, DE – February 29, 2012 – Westminster Village, a Presbyterian Senior Living retirement community, today announced that it has become the first retirement community in Delaware to offer Masterpiece Living®, a new approach to senior living that helps residents lead more robust and fulfilling lifestyles.

Westminster Village is the second of Presbyterian Senior Living’s 24 locations, all located in the mid-Atlantic region, to launch Masterpiece Living, and will do so today in a community-wide celebration at its Dover location.

“We want our residents to think of Westminster Village as more than just a place to live. We want them to come here to challenge themselves, set new goals and achieve those goals,” said Steve Proctor. “The launch of Masterpiece Living at Westminster Village is a promise to our residents to help them find fulfillment and balance in all aspects of their lives.”

The launch event will take place at Westminster Village and features remarks from special guest and Masterpiece Living president, Dr. Roger Landry. Residents will have the opportunity to participate in activities that represent the pillars of Masterpiece Living to include a resident-led yoga class, drama club parody and a resident paint-to-canvas expressionism open studio.

Based on a 10-year Study on Aging by the MacArthur Foundation, the Masterpiece Living approach provides stimulating, life-enriching, measurable programs designed to enhance the lives of residents, staff and the entire culture of the community. Rooted in the finding that how we age depends more on lifestyle choices (70%) than genetics (30%), Masterpiece Living strives to enact change within and by the community, aiming to challenge and motivate residents to discover new hobbies, set and achieve new goals, and ultimately lead healthier, more fulfilling lifestyles.

Dr. Roger Landry, President of Masterpiece Living, offered this insight, “If a community can provide the environment and culture that believes in the growth of its residents, the residents will respond to that. That is what Masterpiece Living is all about – a philosophy that believes in the growth in all areas of our lives and achieving this potential.”
