As part of Presbyterian Senior Living’s (PSL) pledge to our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commitment, PSL has partnered with the SAGE organization.
SAGE was founded in 1978 and is the oldest and largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ older adults offering supportive services and consumer resources as part of their partnerships. SAGECare is the training platform of SAGE that offers training and consultation to organizations seeking to create a fully inclusive LGBTQ+ environment for seniors and staff.
As part of the SAGE partnership, during the fourth quarter of 2022, PSL leaders and team members completed a LGBTQ+ competency training. This training was designed to offer an overview of the various rights and protections extended to LGBTQ+ residents, learn about the unique needs of LGBTQ+ older adults, discover best practices for creating communities that welcome LGBTQ+ older adults, their loved ones and the staff that gives care.
This training supports PSL’s commitment statement which reads: “The Culture and Values of Presbyterian Senior Living give assurance of our organization’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; ensuring that all stakeholders feel that they belong. Visible through our strategy of respecting individuals, we take initiative to cultivate awareness of personal differences and biases to establish an environment of understanding, acceptance, respect and support. By lifting up voices and people, we will create an organization where all stakeholders feel that they are of value. Through this work, we will live out our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, in communion with our stakeholders.”
PSL is excited to share that after completion of this training in December, 2022, PSL obtained the highest level of credentialing through SAGECare which is platinum level. To achieve this level of certification, leadership participated in leadership online training and consultation webinars and team members completed staff online training. This level of certification demonstrates PSL’s strong commitment to creating a safe, positive environment for LGBTQ+ aging adults.
PSL will display this important credentialing throughout the organization and within communication materials and platforms.
This is just one more way to demonstrate PSL’s commitment to serving and employing all persons and signal to perspective residents and team members that our commitment is genuine.
