Reopening Plans for Pennsylvania Personal Care and Assisted Living Communities

COVID Resources  |  Presbyterian Senior Living | Corporate

We are excited to welcome visitors back to select Presbyterian Senior Living communities, and are committed to doing so as safely as possible in order to ensure the health and safety of residents and visitors.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services has issued visitation guidance to long-term care facilities. This is an incremental step visitation reopening. These steps have been outlined below to provide details regarding the movement between steps. It is important to note that the prevalence of COVID-19 in the community is the primary driver for community authorization to progress through, or start over in, the steps.

A COMMUNITY MAY ONLY PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEP IN THEIR REOPENING IF THERE HAVE BEEN NO NEW CASES OF COVID-19 AMONG RESIDENTS OR STAFF FOR 14 CONSECUTIVE DAYS.

This means that any time a staff member or resident tests positive for COVID-19, the community must complete the Pre-Opening phase prior to re-entering Step 1.

Visitation may also be reversed by any changes in the guidance issued by the PA Dept. of Human Services.

Pre-Opening: Visitation is restricted. Community must be free of new COVID-19 cases for 14 consecutive days before proceeding to Step 1.

Step 1: Visitation is restricted. Community must be free of new COVID-19 cases for 14 consecutive days before proceeding to Step 2.

Step 2: Visitation is limited to residents who have not been exposed to COVID-19 and must take place in a neutral zone established by the community. Outdoor or window visitation is highly preferred and is what PSL has established as the neutral zone. Community must be free of new COVID-19 cases for 14 consecutive days before proceeding to Step 3.

Step 3: Visitation indoors in a neutral zone is allowed. Only residents who have not been exposed to COVID-19 may participate. Visitation in the resident’s room is permitted only if the resident cannot be transported to the neutral zone designated by the community.

Screening and additional precautions including hand hygiene and universal masking are required. Space between visitor(s) and resident (and other groups of visitors/resident) must be at least six feet. Visitation time must be scheduled, and community determines appropriate number of visitors to meet visitation requirements. Visitation is not permitted during mealtimes.

Cross-over visitation (Visitation from residents residing in other levels of living within the same community) is only permitted if there is no COVID-19 in the community in which the cross-over visitor resides.
