Presbyterian Senior Living Retirement Community

A Generous Gift that Keeps on Giving

Even before they moved from their home in Smyrna, Delaware, John and Nellie Foltz knew that they wanted to “invest” some of their retirement savings into the future of their new retirement community, Westminster Village in Dover, Delaware.

When John contacted the Mission Support department of Presbyterian Senior Living, then PHI, he was looking for two things: a secure and attractive annuity rate and the opportunity to provide for some amenities and extras in the faith-based community that they would very soon call home.

According to John, “A charitable gift annuity with Presbyterian Senior Living offered the best return on investment that had been presented to us.  And you always feel good about helping the welfare of a Christian community.”  John wanted to insure that he could supplement their long-term care insurance – “the income that we have received over the past year from the annuity has filled a great need.  Now, we have no worries about anything.”

Yes, Nellie would miss her gorgeous hydrangeas, peonies and all of the other beautiful flowers that she planted and nurtured in their yard. Her gorgeous blue eyes light up when she talks about her flowers. “Edgar,” as she affectionately refers to him by his middle name,” is used to moving – I plant myself and then plant flowers and trees.” But as she pointed out, seeing John on the roof cleaning out the gutters always made her very nervous and they both knew that there would be sacrifices involved in moving to a retirement community. The peace of mind they’ve received by moving to a Continuing Care Retirement Community is invaluable. “We looked around at several communities and none measured up to Westminster Village,” said John.

Thus far, their generous gift has provided part of the funding for the awning to provide some shade at the Serenity Garden, the engineering study for a future Wellness Center at the health center and for future projects that the Foltzes choose to support on the Westminster Village Campus.
