Team Member Spotlight: Jessica Glover, Personal Care Administrator at Westminster Woods

Presbyterian Senior Living  |  Team Members

Jessica Glover joined Presbyterian Senior Living (PSL) in July, stepping into her role as Personal Care Administrator at Westminster Woods with a passion for learning and a commitment to compassionate care. With years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in various healthcare settings, Jessica brings a wealth of knowledge to her new administrative role. Her journey is one of resilience, continual growth, and an unwavering dedication to making a positive impact on residents’ lives.

A Journey Through Healthcare and Personal Growth

Jessica’s career in healthcare began at just 18 when she took on her first role as a CNA at Valley View. She then obtained her LPN certification, but her career path took some unique turns as she explored different areas within healthcare. She recalls the excitement she felt working in pediatric home care, where she cared for medically fragile infants and young children. “I loved it,” she shares, reflecting on her experiences with pediatric patients who required specialized medical attention. Although she adored her time in pediatrics, Jessica’s journey eventually led her back to senior care, a field that has always held a special place in her heart.

Her personal experiences shaped Jessica’s approach to caregiving. Having navigated difficult relationships and challenges in her personal life, Jessica developed a deep-seated determination to prove to herself that she could excel and make a meaningful difference. “I needed to grow and prove to myself that I was smart and good at what I did,” she says. “I love nursing because I learn every single day—whether it’s a new med, a new way to do something, or just learning to do better.” Jessica’s curiosity and commitment to growth have been defining traits throughout her career.

Taking on Leadership with Compassion and Advocacy

Jessica was initially hesitant to step into an administrative role, worried that her outspoken advocacy for residents might not fit within the typical mold of an administrator. However, a friend encouraged her, reassuring her that her voice and dedication to doing what’s right were exactly what PSL needed. She took on her first administrative position at Wynwood House, where she also completed an Administrator course that gave her the foundational skills she needed.

“I felt like I could make a real difference as an administrator,” Jessica explains. “When you’re just a nurse on the floor, you have a voice, but as an administrator, I really felt like I could be a bigger voice for those who need it.” At PSL, Jessica has found a place that aligns with her values of respect and advocacy for all residents. She feels fortunate to be part of a community where her commitment to upholding high standards of care is valued and supported.

A Day in the Life of a Personal Care Administrator

In her role, Jessica’s days are busy, filled with responsibilities ranging from overseeing medical orders to ensuring quality resident care. “When I first come in, I check my emails, review medication orders, and make sure that any updates for therapies or assistive devices are in place,” she shares. Her role also involves COVID-19 tracking, coordinating with staff on resident needs, and ensuring that dietary, therapeutic, and daily care teams are all aligned in their approach.

One of Jessica’s core priorities is connecting with residents. “I make it a point to see all my residents,” she says. “You can’t just sit behind a computer and look at a med list and truly know who a person is or what they need.” Jessica believes that personal interaction is essential to delivering effective care and making sure each resident feels valued and understood. She also enjoys participating in activities with residents, whether it’s joining a “paint and sip” session or sitting around the fire pit during a s’mores night. “If you do this position right, you’re moving all the time,” she laughs, explaining her hands-on approach to leadership.

Embracing the Chaos and Thriving in a Fast-Paced Environment

Jessica describes her work environment as “controlled chaos”—a pace that suits her well. Having faced difficult situations and adversity from a young age, she has learned to channel her energy into productive and positive outlets.

“I thrive very well with a million balls above my head because that’s how my brain works,” she says. In the often unpredictable world of healthcare, Jessica finds a sense of purpose and fulfillment in keeping up with the demands of her role and making a meaningful difference in residents’ lives.

For Jessica, the fast-paced, ever-changing nature of her job is not overwhelming; rather, it’s a rewarding challenge. She feels that her unique ability to handle stress and manage multiple responsibilities enables her to thrive in the healthcare environment. “It’s a good chaos,” she says. “Although it’s crazy and it takes my heart, I make a difference with it.”

Making Meaningful Connections with Residents

Jessica’s compassion shines through in her interactions with residents, and she believes that building relationships is one of the most important parts of her role. One of her most cherished connections is with a resident who is known for her sass and stubbornness. Jessica discovered that this resident used to be a nurse herself, which led to a special understanding between them. “Nurses make the worst patients,” she jokes, adding that she’s able to bring a bit of humor into her interactions with this resident, who often says to her, “You light up my life, baby.”

Moments like these fuel Jessica’s passion for her work. “My mission is to light up people’s lives,” she explains. “You never know when somebody’s having a bad day or just needs a little extra kindness.” Jessica finds joy in bringing light to others and sees it as a core part of her purpose. “To be a constant or a light, that’s more than any medication I could ever give.”

The Importance of PSL’s Culture and Values

When Jessica first joined PSL, she was struck by the organization’s commitment to its values. A moment that deeply resonated with her was the daily morning meeting, which ends with a prayer. "I cannot say I go to church every Sunday, but I can say what has gotten me through anything I have endured in my life, good and bad, is my faith,” she shares. “Starting the day with a prayer really meant something to me. It made me feel like this place was genuine in its mission, and this was exactly where I was meant to be on my journey.”

Jessica appreciates PSL’s culture, which prioritizes respect, kindness, and integrity, creating a supportive and uplifting environment for both staff and residents.

Jessica’s experience at PSL has been positive from the start. She feels welcomed and valued by her colleagues, no matter their position. “Since I came in the door, there hasn’t been one person who’s gotten frustrated or annoyed with the amount of questions I’ve had,” she says. “Everybody here treats each other with kindness, and that makes all the difference.” Jessica believes that the team culture at Westminster Woods creates a unique and empowering environment, allowing her to grow and thrive.

A Standout Benefit: PSL’s Pet Insurance

One of the perks Jessica is most excited about at PSL is the recent addition of pet insurance. “My dog is my soul,” she says, explaining that her pet’s well-being is incredibly important to her. Pet insurance allows Jessica to care for her beloved dog without the added financial stress. “I think it’s awesome, and more workplaces should offer it,” she shares. For Jessica and other pet-loving employees, this benefit is a valuable and appreciated addition.

Looking Ahead with Purpose and Passion

Jessica’s journey with PSL is just beginning, and she looks forward to growing within the organization while continuing to make a positive impact on the residents she cares for. She feels a profound responsibility to model perseverance and kindness for her young son, and she strives to instill in him the same values she brings to her work each day. “I do everything I do for him,” she says. “I want him to know that you should always keep learning, keep growing, and be a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves.”

Jessica’s story is one of resilience, compassion, and dedication. In her role at PSL, she is living out her purpose, lighting up lives and advocating for those who need it most. As she puts it, “Helping people is what I was meant to do.” Her passion and commitment make her an inspiring leader and a cherished member of the PSL community.
