History is always on the move. The events and achievements of today and the plans and aspirations of tomorrow all become a part of a single narrative with the passage of time. Presbyterian Senior Living is a ministry that had very modest beginnings. Through the vision of its founders and the diligent work of the generations to follow, it has grown into a comprehensive network of services for seniors. It’s hard to believe that PSL is celebrating 90 years of service to seniors and their families this year. And as we look to the future, we will continue to evolve and diversify the scope of our services to exceed expectations of the individuals we serve.

In 2008 my wife and I had the privilege of traveling to Israel. Part of the trip included visiting the place where the conflict between David and Goliath took place – the valley of Elah. For those who have not read the story, it can be found in I Samuel Chapter 17, verses 1-54. It is rich with detail as a titanic struggle between good and evil. For a few minutes I was able to touch the stones in the stream where scholars believe the young shepherd boy David collected 5 smooth stones in preparation for fighting the giant Philistine warrior Goliath. The images were striking. I could almost feel the drama of the story unfolding, imagining the thoughts of a shepherd selecting the stones that he was going to use in this life or death conflict.

If you’ve been looking into the different types of care for your senior loved one, you’ve most likely come across the phrase “Skilled Nursing,” and you might not be sure what it is. As we age, many of us tend not to think about what would happen if we were suddenly injured. Unfortunately, the truth is that injuries can become more common as we age. Aside from the injury itself, it can be scary to think about how it would affect our lives afterwards. A hospital will be able to repair the immediate damage from an injury, but what comes after that?
